Executive Office Good Relations
The Pixel Project uses digital art as a creative tool to engage young people from a wide range of backgrounds, particularly those living in Greater Belfast, including interface areas, Castlereagh and Lisburn. The programme works with young people who may face barriers to participation, including those living in interface communities, young people with additional support needs, care-experienced young people, newcomer communities and those affected by mental health challenges.
Through structured digital arts workshops, participants explore areas such as graphic design, animation, music production and digital storytelling. The project provides a safe and supportive environment where young people can build skills, confidence and positive peer relationships while engaging with contemporary creative technologies.
A key aim of the Pixel Project is to support attitudinal change and strengthen community understanding across Belfast. By working collaboratively on shared creative outputs, young people are encouraged to challenge stereotypes, build mutual respect and recognise their shared experiences.
The digital outcomes produced through the project create a visible platform for participants to demonstrate how they can contribute positively to their communities and wider society. The work enables young people to express themselves creatively, develop digital skills and showcase their talents, reinforcing a sense of belonging and achievement.
